Co je to Betamax?

S hrůzou jsem zjistil, že málokdo v mém okolí ví, co je to Betamax. Asi je budu muset poslat všechny zpět do školy. Topline, bottomline, Betamax a Napster patří do základní slovní výbavy manažera 21. století. Navíc Betamax a Napster mají k sobě blíže, než se na první pohled zdá:

Spojuje je totiž válka právníků o jejich obchodní model. V případě Betamaxu to byl soud "Sony versus Universal". A firma Sony se v roce 1983 obrátila na soud s následující otázkou:

Petitioners manufacture and sell home video tape recorders. Respondents own the copyrights on some of the television programs that are broadcast on the public airwaves. Some members of the general public use video tape recorders sold by petitioners to record some of these broadcasts, as well as a large number of other broadcasts. The Betamax is, therefore, capable of substantial noninfringing uses. Sony's sale of such equipment to the general public does not constitute contributory infringement of respondents' copyrights.
